Committing to Self Care: It’s Necessary!

So, I’m going to be honest, I suck! Another month, another self-care journey I did not commit to. BLAH. My favorite thing to say these days is “I just had a baby”. Although that is honestly why I haven’t been worried about myself, I cannot keep using the same excuse. With or without a baby, family, pet, job, whatever… self-care is necessary!

I’ve been spending the first week of this month (hence why I didn’t post a blog last week) trying to figure out what I can do to make my self-care goals a priority. I realized that instead of just saying “focus on self-care this month” I need to legit write a list of things I want to do. I started using my agenda again to write down everything and to plan out my days for this month. I even set reminders in my phone to notify me every day for certain goals. Whatever I can do to hold myself accountable I plan to do because of how good taking care of ME feels.

Here’s my self-care goals list:

– Morning prayer

– Reading/Writing every single day

– Haircare: oiling my scalp every other day, drinking 8+ glasses of water daily, and tying my hair up every night (crazy that these are my goal list, right? Smh)

– Working out every other day (I’m currently building up my strength to start more intense workouts)

– Documenting my day (feelings) every night (to track my mental health)

– Off my phone by 10:00pm Monday to Friday (because I need to stop being on social media right before bed)

I would really LOVE to get a bath in one of these days, so I’ll add that as a possible goal for the month. Lol! It’s so hard to find the time to myself but I NEED to. When Ryann’s sleeping and/or when Joel’s at work. It’s time I need for me. To think, to breathe, to just take in ME. Everybody needs their time! I decided to be more specific with timeframes as well. (Daily, every other day, at “this” time, etc)

Sidebar: Documenting my feelings daily is really one I’m really looking forward to! I want to see how many “blah” and “bad” days I have this month compared to the great ones so that I can find a way to make my days/weeks/months better.

I challenge you all to do the same! Create your list of self-care goals. Be specific with your timeframes. Get your “ME” TIME! Always remember: SELF CARE IS A PRIORITY AND NECESSARY!

What’s your self-care goals list for this week and how do you plan to commit to them? Comment below!
