NOTE: A Post for my Expecting/Postpartum Mamas
At first I wasn’t going to do a blog post about the DIY Padsicles I made because this is my first pregnancy so I can’t speak from experience. However! That’s the purpose of my blog. To share things I’m learning through my pregnancy in hopes of helping others. I also received a lot of questions when I posted them on my Instagram story the other day so, I figured why not since there’s been so many interested mamas. First off, Padsicles are used for the healing process after giving birth. Of course everyone have different birth stories (some better than others) but for mothers who have successful vaginal births, I heard these have worked wonders! The products used in Padsicles provide soothing for minor wounds, tears, and inflammation.
All of the products I used can be found at your local department store however, I have provided the links to the exact products you will need from Amazon at the end of the post. (At 8/9 months pregnant, it may be best to have these items sent directly to you to lol)
What you will need:
- 100% Aloe Vera gel (Or as close to 100% as you can get)
- Witch hazel (There’s different scents but make sure it is ALCOHOL FREE!)
- Aura Cacia lavender body oil (Some use coconut oil but I was a little iffy about it)
- Always pads (whatever size is best for you but apparently after birth you’ll definitely need something thicker and longer)
- A spray bottle (optional)
- Plastic spoon/something to spread the aloe vera gel (I used q-tips in the video)
- Ziplock bags (Big enough to fit several pads in)
How you will make them:
- Mix half of the bottle of witch hazel with about 3 or 4 squirts of lavender oil in a spray bottle and shake it up
- Open about 3 to 4 pads and lay them out (Make sure you do not remove the wrapper completely and to keep the sticky that comes on the wings so that you can close it back up)
- Spray the pads with the witch hazel and aura cacia oil mixture
- Squirt some of the aloe gel on each pad and use the spoon to make sure it completely covers the pads
- Close the wings and put the sticky back on the pad
- Close the pads back up
- Place the pads in a Ziplock back and put them in the freezer
Below is a clip of me making one just to show you exactly how I did it.
You can make as many as you like. (Or however many can fit in the Zip-lock bag) I made about 6 to 10 pads two weeks before my due date. (Because we all know babies come whenever they want) I didn’t want to make them too far from my due date, but I also wanted to be prepared in case she comes early. I’m going to take a few to the hospital with me and I might make more as/if needed once I get home.
The items you will need are below. If you click the links, you will be directed to Amazon to purchase!
Hopefully these will help with the after birth healing process for us mommies! Please feel free to ask any questions and I’ll try to answer them as best as possible!
